What is Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouts is a program for boys and girls in kindergarten through 5th grade that combines fun, adventure, learning, and character development. Scouts participate in activities with their families and pack while building skills, confidence, and friendships.
Does my child need any prior scouting experience?
Not at all! Kids in grades K-5 can join at any age and at any time throughout the year. No prior experience is necessary.
What do Cub Scouts actually do?
Cub Scouts participate in a wide variety of activities including camping and outdoor activities, hiking and nature activities, the Pinewood Derby, STEM projects, crafts and games, fishing, community service, sports and physical activities, campfires and smore's, trips to fun places, ceremonies and celebrations, working toward ranks and completing adventures. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
How often do we meet?
Our pack meets weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30–7:30 p.m. Most meetings throughout the month are Den meetings, where scouts meet in smaller groups. Once a month, we all meet together as a full Pack. Most months, we also have at least one weekend activity.
Do parents have to attend?
Cub Scouts is a family-oriented program, so we do require a parent or adult to attend with their child. Parents are encouraged to participate, assist with activities, and, most importantly, have fun with their Scout!
Does my child have to attend every single meeting and event?
Not at all! We encourage Scouts to attend as many meetings and activities as possible, but we understand that families have busy schedules. Many of our Scouts participate in sports, theater, and other activities in addition to Cub Scouts. We want Cub Scouts to be something your child can enjoy alongside the other things they love—not something that prevents them from participating in them. If your Scout has to miss a Den or Pack meeting, don't worry! Adventures can be made up at another time, so missing a meeting doesn't mean they have to miss out.
How much does Cub Scouts cost?
Costs vary depending on registration fees, pack dues, uniforms, and activities. We provide several fundraising opportunities throughout the year to help offset the cost of scouting.
Does Cub Scouting require camping?
Camping and outdoor activities are an important part of Cub Scouts, but you don't have to be an experienced camper! There are opportunities to participate at different comfort levels, so families can choose what works best for them.
Can siblings participate?
Absolutely! MANY Pack activities are family-friendly, and siblings are often welcome to attend.
Can parents volunteer?
Yes! Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. You don't need to be a scouting expert. There are many ways to help, from helping at an event to becoming a registered leader.
What skills will my child learn?
Leadership, Teamwork, Problem Solving, Independence, Outdoor Skills, Communication, Responsibility, Confidence, Community Awareness
